“Alien” Abductions: Terror from the Sky

Alien abductions have become a phenomena to be reckoned with in Western society. Presently there are books, magazines, videos, conferences, societies, 900-numbers, film festivals, and support groups for victims of alien abduction.1 A quick look at the bestseller lists over the last decade reveals that books published on the abduction experience have outnumbered (in terms of sales) books on all other subjects related to UFOs combined.2

The alien-abduction phenomenon seems to have exploded in 1966 with the case of Betty and Barney Hill. According to their testimony, they had gotten lost one night driving through the mountains. Years later, they read some literature on UFOs, spent some time with some psychiatrists, and, under hypnosis, suddenly “remembered” having been kidnapped by aliens the night they got lost. While under hypnosis they “remembered” having been subjected to a variety of indignities.

Since the Hill incident, there have been numerous books, movies, and TV docudramas dealing with this couple’s strange experience. With the Hills, the abduction experience penetrated Western culture and became a topic of fascination.3

The abduction phenomenon has now snowballed. There are people all across the country who have “discovered,” under hypnosis, that they too have been abducted by aliens. One poll made the wild claim that nearly 3 percent of Americans have been abducted by aliens.4 (To put that statistic into perspective, if you’re in an auditorium seating 1,000 adults, 30 of them have likely been abducted by aliens.)

The Typical Abduction Experience

People who claim to have been abducted typically report being taken from a room against their wills and then being floated upwards into an alien spacecraft where they are laid on an examining table. While in the spacecraft, the abductee is poked, prodded, and often molested in a sexual manner. Sometimes the aliens will induce rapid, intense sexual arousal and even orgasm.

Painful medical procedures are often performed by groups of aliens. Instruments are used to penetrate virtually every part of the abductee’s body, including the nose, sinuses, eyes, ears, various parts of the head, arms, legs, feet, abdomen, genitalia, and, more rarely, the chest. Sometimes people are dismembered. Body parts and organs are severed from the body, only to be reattached later.5 Some report an object being inserted deep into the nose.

Part of the examination involves the alien examiner pressing on the abductee’s vertebrae one by one, from the top of the spine to the coccyx. Another part of the examination involves the aliens using their fingers to “dance” over their captives for some unknown reason. One abductee reports that it felt like the alien was playing piano on her body. Another abductee reported it felt as if the alien were “typewriting” on her.6

Some abductees report that following this physical trauma, they are subjected to some sort of spiritual examination, with their souls being probed and their memories being examined in some way. This has become known among some in the UFO community as “Mindscan.”

During Mindscan, the abductee is still on the table; the being bends over him or her, comes so close their foreheads might touch.
